Checking in at Ben Gurion Airport

Here I am waiting to board the plane for Calgary. I will have one more entry when I get back to sum things up and give a final send off to see if I did indeed save the world, or at least a small part of it.

After Wednesday night I slept at Asa's place. We went out for a drink with some of his friends and enjoyed the evening. The next day I went for a run around kibbutz Dafna while he was at school in the morning. Thursday afternoon we met up with Yonatan and his roomate Syvan and went to a winery. Yumm. It was a pomegranate winery which makes all their wine from pomegranates. They were all incredibly sweet but I bought a bottle for Sally and some jam to take home. Thursday night we had some tea with his neighbour Irit, and then went for delicious hamburgers with Rotem and Daniel from the earlier trip. Friday morning I got on a bus back to TA for Shabbat.

First Sally and I needed some fresh air so we walked across the street to the beach. I have some more observations about Israelis at the beach.

Firstly, they like to wear speedos. And they like to show off a lot of their...goods. Think o the phrase 'just the tip' and you will know what I mean.
Also, I saw a little boy of say 9 years old stand at the edge of the water, whip down his shorts, and piss right there. His mom was just standing there as if it was the most normal thing in the world. Ya, as effing if. Imagine I I did that it would certainly not be normal. I, like every rational man, am required to at least make an effort of being discreet and go into the water to pee. Which of course I did.

After that we had Dave Sisco for dinner and Sally made delicious sushi, chicken and salad. Then we wen out to the Galina (name of the bar) and got...un-sober. One might even say we un-sobered up. No one did, but one might. At the Galina we met some of Sally's other med school friends who were out new got to the bar at 9.50 pm but they didn't open until 10 so wouldn't let us in. Crazy hey? Then the tried to barge us fifty sheqels cover! We were the only ppl there. In the end we didn't pay and had a great night and the place got extremely busy.

At 4 am I tried to watch the Canucks game and somewhat made it through the first period but then couldn't keep my eyes open. After waking Sally up and her cursing, I went to bed at 5.

Wake up in the morn Saturday. Sally had some things to do and at 2.30 she came back. I hadn't yet been outside but that's ok needed the rest. From there we went back to he beach. I decided not to put sunscreen on my chest and got burnt. I did on my face and shoulders though so am about half way burnt only. It's notthat bad vanities lovely day of sightseeing at the Tel Aviv beach. More dinks in speedos of fat men. Seriously.
Also, saw a guy give his 5 year old a sip of his beer and saw the kid make that sour face and spit it out. Classic. There is a military airfield right next to the beach so it is néet to see the planes fly super low over the beach to land.

(I'm getting tired and my battery is dying on my iPod)

After the beach, had a piece if delicious pizza and frozen yogurt with Shuval who came to see me. He also drove me to the airport at 1.30 am which was very nice.

Sally and I had an amazing dinner at Eatmeat. Yes that is the name. Best. Sandwich. Ever. Delicious.

Then we played some ping pong with Sasha and came home around 11. Finished packing. And said my goodbyes to sally and to Israel. I know I will be back, but I will leave that discussion for next post.

The airport here is a madhouse. I arrived three hours early for my flight and good thing too. I had about an hour on the other side which is when I am typing this exact blog entry.

Keep your passport handy that is for sure. I showed mine to literally a dozen people at every stage evrerywhere. I am bringig a bag home for Sally so of course as soon as I say that they take extra security and that is fine. I was truthful about what it was and who it cam from. I simply said I helped my friend pack it and am taking it home for her as she is finishing MRI so school. They asked the reeler questions and some extra ones but nothing hat deserves attention.

Now I am sitting here in the airport waiting for my flight.

Will continue the end of the story And wrap up on an actual computer soon.

Sincerely,
Elliot S. Weinstein
